Hyundai's 2020 Sonata midsize sedan will offer a slew of tech updates, including a digital key that allows users to access the vehicle with their smartphone, as it enters its eighth generation. Hyundai debuted the vehicle at the New York auto show.

The 2020 Sonata will move to Hyundai's new vehicle platform that enables improvements in design, safety, efficiency, and driving performance, according to the company.

The new Smartstream G2.5 GDI engine that powers the vehicle is a 2.5-liter inline-four cylinder that makes 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. It replaces the outgoing 2.4-liter inline-four, and provides incremental increases of 6 hp and 3 lb.-ft. of torque. Hyundai estimates it's EPA fuel efficiency will come in at 33 miles per gallon combined, which is a 4 mpg improvement.

The vehicle can be remotely stared using a fob or "digital key" with a smartphone. The vehicle also offers Smart Remote Parking Assist, which will allow a driver to park it with no one inside the car.

The 2020 Sonata will enter production in September at Hyundai's Alabama assembly plant. The vehicle will arrive in showrooms in October.
