South Africa Commercial Vehicle Sales Up in August

Domestic sales of new light commercial vehicles, pickup trucks and mini-buses in South Africa saw a slight increase of 0.5% in August, compared to the same time last year.

Roughly 14,041 units were sold during August 2019, which had recorded an increase of 71 units or a modest gain, from the 13,970 light commercial vehicles sold during the corresponding month last year, according to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA).

Meanwhile, sales in the medium and heavy-truck segments of the industry reflected a mixed performance, according to NAAMSA. Medium-duty trucks reached 740 units which was an increase of 46 vehicles or an improvement of 6.6%, and the case of heavy-trucks and buses, which saw 1,681 units sold, was a decline of 176 vehicles or a fall of 9.5% compared to the corresponding month last year. 

Overall, out of the total reported industry sales of 45,537 vehicles, an estimated 3,9% went to industry corporate fleets.
