The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has recently given two more Hyundai models 2018 Top Safety Pick status, including the 2019 Santa Fe and Accent. Hyundai has earned 10 2018 awards, including six models that have been named a Top Safety Pick+.

The 2019 Santa Fe compact SUV, which is entering its fourth generation, earned a Top Safety Pick+ award when it's equipped with good-rated LED headlights. The 2019 Accent subcompact sedan has received Top Safety Pick recognition.

Following crash-testing, the vehicles each garnered good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests. They both also offer front crash prevention that ranks as either advanced or superior, along with acceptable- or good-rated headlights.

The Santa Fe's strong performance in the passenger-side small overlap test is the factor that put it over the top — earning it the "plus" status. The SUV scored a good rating in this crashworthiness test.

In track tests at 12 mph and 25 mph, the Santa Fe withstood collisions, thanks to its front crash prevention system. This superior-rated system now comes standard, notes IIHS. The redesigned 2019 Santa Fe features two rows of seats versus the former generation, which had three.

Headlights are another key component of the IIHS safety evaluation. The Santa Fe's Limited and Ultimate trims come with LED headlights that earn a good rating. The halogen lights on the other trim levels earn a marginal rating.

The Accent's acceptable LED headlights come with the Limited trim and are new for the 2019 model. The base halogen lights earn a poor rating.
